This piece has an excellent concept and portrays the endless battle between good and evil in a very effective way.
The vibrant red of ‘evil’ is so pungent, and her pose is vicious yet sensual. As in real life, the ‘evil’ it far more tempting and seems to have a stronger hold on our victim. Her hair carries such weight, that it seems to be dragging her down, just as the taste of malevolence can pull us further from the right choices. The way her hair caress our victim’s arms really connects the two.
In contrast, the pale ‘good’ seems to barely be able to keep her hold, even as her presence weakens the evil. She seems so stunned, as her hair is blown back by evil’s strength. It almost seems like she is shocked that her cool blue poison hasn’t completely consumed and driven the evil away already. She has a texture that resembles stone to be shattered by the seduction of evil.
The way the duo are laid out seems to hint that what ever tragedy has torn the victim’s life was of enough strength to make him lean toward the darkness, seduced by her half lidded call. At the same time, the victim still has that touch of lightness
Though, the piece does seem a bit to bright which corrupts the devious atmosphere. This seems to be the cures of the digital artist, as it may just be that my computer has different settings then yours. Over all, it is a brilliance peace.
I would consider this a sequel to Cameil's critique. I agree with it almost entirely.
I'll just add that the way you depicted ALL of the lighting in the room coming from the spirits is really incredible. The white glow to the left of the boy, and the red glow to the right is a striking effect!
I don't think it's too bright at all, because all of the lighting IS the Good and Evil. The Good spirit emanates such a bright light that you would think it would be the more obvious choice for the lad to make. And yet the Evil spirit seems to be winning, at least she's gotten closer to him.
But then again, it appears that the Good spirit actually dwells within him, and is being pushed out by the Evil spirit. What gives me that impression is the fact that the Good spirit seems to be partially merged with him (her breasts with his arm, her arm with his chest). Whereas the Evil spirit is only around him, not in him yet. But she's trying!
Also, it is not clear whether the Evil being contemplated is murder or suicide. That's just perfect in my view because it allow the viewer to make his or her own connections to whatever dark emotions they've had to battle in their own lives. For me, this picture depicts suicidal thoughts. I went through that at age 16, which is about how old your youth looks. And I can tell you your art depicts that experience as well as anything I've ever seen, including movies.
